The wine regions are an hour apart from each other, the high Andes are two hours west, and San Rafael is another three hours south. How many days you need is really a question about how many of those you are willing to skip.

Length

What it is

What fits

What you give up

Who it suits

3 days

Two wine regions and one mountain day, at speed

Uco Valley or Luján de Cuyo — not both properly · one high Andes day · the city in an evening

Rafting, San Rafael, a rest day, anything south

First-timers on a tight loop, or an add-on to Buenos Aires

5 days

The wine regions properly, plus the Andes, plus slack

Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley · high Andes to the Aconcagua viewpoint · a spa or rafting day · one unscheduled day for weather

San Rafael, Las Leñas, multi-day trekking

Almost everyone. The jump from three to five is the biggest single upgrade in this table, because it is the difference between seeing one wine region and understanding why Mendoza has three.

What Each Length Costs

Two ways to price a Mendoza trip, and they answer different questions. The first column is what the experiences cost if you book them individually and sort out your own hotel and transfers. The second is a closed package, where accommodation, transfers and guiding are already in. Both are real prices from our catalogue, per person, current as of September 2026.

Length

A realistic plan

Day tours, per person

Tours subtotal

Ready-made package

3 days

Wine tour with lunch + high Andes day + city walking tour

USD 77 + USD 118 + USD 32

from USD 227 in tours

3-day trips

5 days

The above + a second wine region + rafting or a spa day

add USD 164 + USD 55 or USD 66

from USD 446 in tours

5-day packages, USD 1,340–3,360

7 days

The above + San Rafael and the Atuel canyon, or a multi-day trek

add the Atuel canyon or USD 259 in Aconcagua Park

from USD 705 in tours

6-day packages from USD 1,758

Day-tour prices are the lowest available rate for each experience and cover the activity only. A five-day trip at USD 446 in tours still needs four nights and the driving between regions, and Mendoza’s wine regions are not somewhere you want to drive after a tasting. That is the whole argument for a package at this length, and it is also why the three-day version is the one people most often end up booking loose.

Reflection of Mount Aconcagua in the Andes west of Mendoza

Why One Region Is One Day

The reason three days is tight has nothing to do with there being little to do. It is geography. Here is what a real day looks like in each of the areas people want to combine.

Luján de Cuyo and Maipú — the closest

Twenty to forty minutes from the city. Two wineries with a tasting, or two plus lunch, is a full day. The bike version in Chacras de Coria (from USD 87) is the exception where three wineries fit, because they are within cycling distance of each other.

Uco Valley — the one that eats a day

An hour and a half each way, and the estates are spread across the valley rather than clustered. Three wineries with lunch is the standard day and it runs long. Trying to add Uco to a Luján day is the single most common mistake in a three-day itinerary.

The high Andes — a full day, always

The road west to the Aconcagua viewpoint is about four hours of driving round trip before you stop anywhere. Puente del Inca, Uspallata and the viewpoint fill the rest. There is no half-day version of this.

San Rafael and the Atuel canyon — only with a night

Three hours south of Mendoza city. Doable as a very long day from the city, much better with a night there, which is why it only appears in the seven-day column.

What the Days Actually Look Like

Durations are abstract until you see them laid out. These are the shapes we build most often, using the tours in the table above. Nothing here is aspirational — it is what fits.

Three days: pick one wine region and commit

Day 1 — Luján de Cuyo or the Uco Valley. Two or three wineries with lunch. Pick Luján if you want to be back in the city by late afternoon, Uco if you want the high-altitude vineyards and the Andes as a backdrop and do not mind a long day.

Day 2 — the high Andes. West on Route 7 to the Aconcagua viewpoint, with Puente del Inca and Uspallata on the way. Out early, back for dinner. This is the day people try to shorten and cannot.

Day 3 — the city, and out. Parque General San Martín, the centre on foot, an olive oil tasting or a cooking class if your flight is late. Do not schedule a winery here: departure days and tasting rooms do not mix well.

Five days: both regions, and room to breathe

Days 1 and 2 — the two wine regions. Luján de Cuyo and Maipú first, then the Uco Valley. In that order, because Uco is the longer day and it lands better once you have context for what you are tasting.

Day 3 — the high Andes. Same as above, and after two winery days the change of pace is the point.

Day 4 — the one you choose. Rafting on the Mendoza River, a spa day at the Cacheuta hot springs, a cooking class at a winery, or a bike day through the vineyards. This is the day that turns a wine trip into a Mendoza trip.

Day 5 — spare. Keep it loose. In practice it absorbs the day the Zonda wind blows, or the winery you did not get into on day 1, or a long lunch that runs into the evening. Every itinerary needs one of these and three-day trips cannot afford it.

Seven days: leave the city

The first five days stay as above. Days 6 and 7 are where the province opens up: two days south to San Rafael and the Atuel canyon with a night there, or two more days on the mountain — the Confluencia trek inside Aconcagua Park, or the three-day Plaza Francia trek if you have the days and the legs for it. Seven days is also the point where a package stops being a convenience and starts being cheaper than assembling it yourself.

What If You Have 2, 4 or 6 Days?

Trips rarely arrive in the round numbers guides like to use. Flights, connections and other stops decide the length, and then you work with it. Here is what the in-between durations really give you.

Two days

One wine region and the city. Spend both days close in — Luján de Cuyo and Maipú — and skip the Uco Valley entirely rather than spending a third of your time on the road to it. Two days is also the only length where we would suggest not booking the high Andes: it takes a full day and it would leave you with wine or mountains, not both.

Four days

This is three days plus the day that makes it work. Add the second wine region and you have covered what most people come to Mendoza for, without the spare day that five gives you. It is a good length, and it is where most of our packages sit — eight of them, from USD 509 for the four-day cycling route to USD 2,170 for the Uco Valley wine and cooking package.

Six days

Five days plus one, and the honest answer is that the sixth day is best spent going somewhere rather than adding another tasting. San Rafael with a night, or a day and a night on the mountain. Our six-day packages start at USD 1,758.

A note on the first and last day

One thing every itinerary in this article assumes: arrival and departure days are not full days. Most international routes reach Mendoza via Buenos Aires or Santiago, so day one is usually an afternoon and the last day is a morning. If your five days include both flights, plan for four. That single adjustment is the most common reason a trip feels rushed when the itinerary looked fine on paper.

If You Only Remember One Thing

Count travel time, not attractions. Every list of things to do in Mendoza makes the province look compact, and the drive between the Uco Valley and the high Andes is what actually decides your itinerary. Three days means choosing. Five means not having to. Seven means the choice stops being about time at all. Tell us how many days you have and we will tell you what honestly fits in them.

And once the length is settled, the next question is what goes in the days. Our guide to what there actually is to do, zone by zone lists twenty plans with the drive from the city and the real price of each one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 5 days in Mendoza too much?

No — five is the length that stops the trip feeling rushed. It fits both main wine regions, a full day in the high Andes, one more experience like rafting or a spa day, and a spare day for weather. It is the length we sell most of.

Is 3 days enough for Mendoza?

Enough for one wine region and one mountain day, not for both wine regions. Three days works well as an add-on to a longer Argentina trip, or if wine is the only thing you came for and you are happy to pick a single region.

Is 2 days enough for Mendoza?

Two days means one wine region and the city, and nothing else. It is doable but you will spend the second day aware of what you are missing. If your dates are fixed at two, spend them in Luján de Cuyo rather than committing one to the Uco Valley round trip.

What can I do in Mendoza in 3 days?

A wine tour with lunch in Luján de Cuyo or the Uco Valley, a full day to the high Andes and the Aconcagua viewpoint, and the city in an evening. Around USD 227 per person in tours, plus accommodation and transfers.

How many days do you need for the wineries alone?

Two full days to do Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley properly, one for each. Three if you want to add Maipú or a cooking class at a winery.

Do you need a car in Mendoza?

Not if you are doing guided tours, and there is a good reason not to drive yourself between wineries. A car helps if you are going to San Rafael or moving around on your own schedule, but the wine regions are the one place where a driver is worth it.

When should the trip be, not just how long?

That is the other half of the decision.
