Aconcagua Provincial Park is home to three base camps, each one deeper, higher, and more demanding than the last. Whether you have a single day or a full week, SAK Wine & Travel runs guided treks to all three — with private transport from Mendoza, certified high-mountain guides, and logistics fully covered. No mountaineering experience required for any of them. Just choose your level and we’ll take care of the rest.

Aconcagua Base Camp Hike: Trek 1 day to Confluencia

DistanceDurationMax AltitudeDifficultyBest SeasonDeparts
~14 km RT4–6 hours3,400 m / 11,155 ftModerateNov – MarMendoza
Group of hikers walking toward the Andes with Aconcagua in the background.

You don’t need to be a mountaineer to stand at the foot of the highest peak in the Americas. The Confluencia day hike takes you to the first camp on Aconcagua’s classic climbing route — through one of the most dramatic high-altitude landscapes in the Andes — and gets you back to Mendoza the same evening. No ropes, no crampons, no multi-day commitment required.

Departing Mendoza in the early morning, you’ll make the two-hour drive up into the park before hitting the trail at Horcones. The route follows the Horcones River valley, gradually gaining elevation as the landscape strips away to raw scree, glacial meltwater, and the imposing southern wall of Aconcagua growing larger with every step.

At Confluencia (3,400 m), you’ll stop for a box lunch and take in a view that very few travelers ever reach. Your certified high-mountain guide will share the story of the mountain and the climbers who camp here before pushing for the summit — then you’ll descend back to the park entrance in the afternoon.

If one day at Confluencia leaves you wanting more, Plaza Francia is the next step up. This 3-day guided trek pushes deeper into the park, all the way to the base of Aconcagua’s legendary South Face — a sheer wall of rock and ice that no road, cable car, or day trip can reach. At 4,100 meters, you’ll be standing where expedition climbers begin their ascent.

Day one takes you to Confluencia, where you’ll spend the night in mountain tents with hot meals. Day two is the main event: a 5-hour push along the Horcones Inferior glacier to Plaza Francia, with lunch served in the shadow of the South Wall. You’ll return to Confluencia for a second night before descending to the park exit on day three.

This trek is designed for active travelers who want a genuine multi-day mountain experience without technical climbing. Our certified high-mountain guides manage safety, pace, and all logistics — so all you have to do is walk and take it in.

Plaza de Mulas Base Camp: 7-Day High-Altitude Expedition

~80 km RT7 days5,000 m / 16,404 ftDemandingNov – MarMendoza
Two trekkers embracing at high altitude during the Trekking – 7 Days Aconcagua Park – Plaza Francia + Plaza de Mulas + Bonete 5000m tour.

Plaza de Mulas is the largest base camp on Aconcagua and the staging point for every climber attempting the normal summit route. At 4,350 meters, it sits above most of the world’s highest peaks — and getting there is a full expedition in itself.

Over seven days you’ll move progressively through the park: acclimatization at Los Penitentes, then Confluencia, Plaza Francia, and finally the long push up the Cuesta Brava to Plaza de Mulas. For those ready, day six adds an ascent of Cerro Bonete (5,000 m) with unobstructed views of Aconcagua’s western wall and summit route.

This is SAK’s most ambitious Aconcagua program — built for trekkers who want to push their altitude limits without a summit permit. Our guides have deep knowledge of the park’s conditions and weather, and will manage every decision on the mountain so you can focus entirely on the experience.
