Private tour to the High Andes with visit to Cristo Redentor
Christ the Redeemer is a monument located at more than 4000 meters above sea level among the high snow-capped peaks of the Andes Mountains. It is located in the High Mountain area, on the border of Argentina and Chile, and symbolizes peace between both countries.
Crossing the foothills begins a winding road that will lead us to the foot of majestic mountains near the international pass. The rugged landscape will welcome you to this land of eternal snow that attracts thousands of tourists.
Our driver will pick you up early in the morning at your accommodation. From the beginning of the trip you will have the exclusive service of a trained guide who will be at your disposal and will adapt to your time to know each of the places. At the beginning of the tour you will learn about the history of Mendoza and the importance of the mountains for our culture. Entering the foothills we will find the first mountain village, Cacheuta. Then we will arrive at the Potrerillos dam, a water mirror at 1380 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains and close to the village that bears his name.
Continuing along the international route, Uspallata awaits us, an important mountain tourist center where you can buy something characteristic of the area. A few kilometers away we will visit the Penitentes ski resort and continue to a provincial icon: Puente del Inca. This natural monument is part of the Andean road system known as the Inca Trail, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here you can get off and ask the guide about the stories of this incredible place.
It is time to visit the Aconcagua Park where we will have a short introduction about the colossus of America and you can take the time to walk at the foot of one of the highest peaks in the world. After a few photos, and if weather conditions permit, we will continue on our way until we reach the town of Las Cuevas. In this remote mountain village we will start climbing up to the base of the Cristo Redentor monument. When we reach 4200 meters above sea level we will see this symbol of peace and brotherhood between the Argentinean and Chilean people. We will have time to walk around the place and enjoy the most impressive part of this tour: the impressive view of the snow-capped peaks that surround the monument and the ancestral silence of the mountain.
At the end of the tour we will start our way back to the city. On the way we will enjoy a delicious Creole lunch with Mendoza wine in a typical country place in Uspallata. Let’s raise our glasses and toast to this unique experience!
Bring a warm coat in your backpack! In Alta Montaña the weather may surprise you. At the Cristo Redentor monument the wind is usually strong and there is a big temperature difference due to the altitude.
At SAK Wine & Travel we design each experience in tune with the care and respect for nature and local communities. We want our travelers, when they return home, to feel that change has begun and that traveling is a great opportunity to build a better world. By traveling with us you are taking care of Mendoza’s water.
What do you need for this tour?
Essential items
We suggest you to bring these items for personal use to make your excursion perfect:
– Small backpack.
– Extra mineral water.
– Personal care items (lip balm with sunscreen, sunscreen SPF50, antibacterial gel/wipes, insect repellent).
– Special clothing: hat or cap, sunglasses, comfortable and warm clothing (fleece/sweater, windbreaker), appropriate footwear for the activity.
Note: The best clothing for mountain activities is wool or synthetic materials in layers, as they dry quickly and keep warmth better. We suggest a base layer, then an intermediate layer, such as a light fleece coat or similar, and then a windproof and waterproof layer.
